Commandment 1 The Ten Commandments are a summary of “the conditions of life to be free from the slavery of sin”. They must be understood in relation to the “law of love”: Love of God and love of neighbour summarizes all of Christian morality. The law of love is also the first principle and source of moral law. It contains “all the law and the prophets” (Mt 22:40). It is a description of the minimum that love requires. Christian life itself requires much more than simply following the Ten Commandments. Key Strands The first commandment has three key elements that need focus  1. I am the Lord your God  2. I am the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3. You shall have no other gods before Me. This could be capsuled in three R. God Relates   • There is a solemnity about this statement where God declares, 'I am the Lord' In this statement God relates to his people. He says, 'I am your God'. God owns His people. This...

Breaking the Commandments is breaking your life.

Don’t break the Commandments Commandments are not mere suggestions given by God so that Man has an option to choose to abide by it or not. It is called Commandments. It means an order by God. The Commandments are binding on all. Adhering to the commandments brings divine blessings and disobeying the commandments is a gateway to hell. Obeying and disobeying both have their consequences. The former brings reward and blessing while the latter curse and peril. Hence, let us not trade our spiritual integrity for short time temporal pleasures and gains. By practising the Ten Commandments we become sharper to distinguish right from wrong and good from evil. The Bible has signs and symbols. When Man sins, he breaks the commandments. One of the signs we can easily notice ...

Do not build your temple on dead donkeys

Build your foundation on Christ with the Ten Pillars  There was a self-proclaimed Godman, who ran a temple successfully. He strategically constructed the temple in the marketplace. It was a popular business corner. A lot of devotees flocked to the temple to offer prayers and petitions. Fortunately, most of the prayers were answered and devotees labelled the temple as a place of luck and never failed to get the temple deity’s blessings and in return dumped offerings in the dumb box. The Godman was riding on the luck and thriving on the offerings of the devotees. He had a lazy son who squandered all the offerings and lavishly spent it on trivial things. Due to his overspending, the father was annoyed. Every day the father and son had a tiff that often ended in a cold domestic war. One day the son told the father, give my share of the property and let me build my own business. Father was more tha...

Empty your Cup to learn from Jesus

The Law is inscribed in our heart or Soul yet one has to learn from Jesus for He is gentle and humble.   God has written the law in our hearts. The unwritten law that existed during Adam's time was a law of conscience. Later, God presented the Israelites with the Ten Commandments. During Jeremiah’s time, He made a new covenant with the Israelites and declared,   "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.’ St Paul writes to the Corinthians, ‘It is clear that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but tablets of human hearts” 2 Cor 3:3.    So, it is apparent that the law is inscribed in our hearts. The Lord is the Master and the Teacher. What does God do after inscribing the Law or the Commandments in our Soul?   He declares, “No longer will each man teach his neig...
