Breaking the Commandments is breaking your life.

                                            Don’t break the Commandments

Commandments are not mere suggestions given by God so that Man has an option to choose to abide by it or not. It is called Commandments. It means an order by God. The Commandments are binding on all. Adhering to the commandments brings divine blessings and disobeying the commandments is a gateway to hell. Obeying and disobeying both have their consequences. The former brings reward and blessing while the latter curse and peril.

Hence, let us not trade our spiritual integrity for short time temporal pleasures and gains. By practising the Ten Commandments we become sharper to distinguish right from wrong and good from evil.

The Bible has signs and symbols. When Man sins, he breaks the commandments. One of the signs we can easily notice in the Scriptures is Moses breaking the Stone Tablets of the Ten Commandments written by the finger of God when he heard that the Israelites were making merry and dancing around a new deity called the golden calf. Moses' anger blazed. He threw down the tablets he was holding and broke them at the foot of the mountain (Exod 32:15, 19).

The First symbol here is Israelites committed a grave sin against God and therefore Moses symbolically broke the Tablet indicating that they broke the Commandments. Of course, He did it in a fit of anger and rage. But the underlying message was loud and clear that if you sin you break the commandments and are likely to die. Apostle James writes in his epistle, 'whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it'. Jam 2:10. Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness says, John.

The second symbol God used here through Moses is Moses made everyone who worshipped the golden calf to drink the mixture of the golden calf. When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain. And he took the calf they had made and burned it in the fire; then he ground it to powder, scattered it on the water and made the Israelites drink it. This tells us that the consequences of sins cannot be eluded, and one must face it. If one eats salt, one must drink water.

The third Symbol is 'Sin leads to death'.

Then he said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: `Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbour.' The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. For the rest of the people, well, the Lord struck them with a plague. God expressed that the wages of sin are death symbolically.

So, the best way to enter life is to keep the commandments. When a rich young man questioned Jesus about entering the eternal life, He said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” Matt 19:17

So, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. If you really love Jesus, you will keep his commandments.

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments,” said Jesus.
